Harris' vice presidential candidates: Bloomberg reveals short list
US Vice President Kamala Harris focused on three contenders who could potentially become the Democratic vice presidential candidate, reports Bloomberg.
According to the newspaper, Harris is considering a wide range of candidates for the Democratic vice presidential nomination. However, people familiar with the process say that a short list of candidates has already been formed.
It includes three elected officials who are popular across the country. The list includes:
- Arizona Senator Mark Kelly;
- Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro;
- Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
At the same time, Harris' campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz said that the vice president has already instructed her team to begin the process of vetting potential vice presidential candidates.
It is expected that Harris will make a choice by August 7, in line with the party's plan to actually nominate a list of candidates by that date.
Biden's withdrawal and Harris's chances
The US presidential election will be held on November 5 this year. The current president, Joe Biden, decided to withdraw from the election race due to his unsuccessful performance in the debate against Republican candidate Donald Trump, as well as pressure from the Democrats.
Instead, he proposed US Vice President Kamala Harris as a candidate for the presidency. On the first day after the news of Harris' announcement of her decision to run, she collected $81 million in donations for her campaign, which is an absolute record.
According to a poll by The New York Times, the gap between Trump and Harris is 1%. 48% of potential voters are ready to vote for Trump, while 47% are ready to vote for Harris.
