Harris leads Trump in 3 key states, polls find
US presidential candidate Kamala Harris is ahead of her opponent Donald Trump in three key states. The winner of the election often depends on them, according to The New York Times.
New polls in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania conducted this week show a sharp change in the Democratic Party's position after US President Joe Biden refused to seek re-election.
Harris leads Trump by four percentage points in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, 50 to 46 percent among likely voters in each state. The surveys were conducted from 5 to 9 August.
The polls, some of the first high-quality polling in these states since President Biden announced he would not run for re-election, come after nearly a year of polls that showed either a tie or a slight lead for Trump over Biden.
According to the Ipsos poll, Harris has increased her lead since July, when a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed her with a 37% to 34% lead over Trump.
The nationwide poll, conducted from 2 to 7 August among 2,045 American adults, also showed that 4% of respondents support independent candidate Robert Kennedy Jr, down 6% from July.
