Often, hair fragility and even hair loss are caused by improper care. The main mistake people often make is avoiding the use of a hairdryer.

RBC-Ukraine explains how to use a hairdryer correctly to avoid damaging your locks.

Why you should dry your hair with a hairdryer

At home, maintaining the healthy condition of your hair and scalp is crucial.

According to Ukrainian trichologist Yulia Dudii, the biggest mistake people make is the fear of using a hairdryer. Many believe that a hairdryer dries out the scalp and strands.

In reality, with the correct hairdryer technique, you can maintain the natural moisture of your hair and achieve beautiful, healthy locks.

When styling your hair with a hairdryer, you should monitor the airflow. It should follow the direction of hair growth, at a 45-degree angle to your strands.

This way, you can minimize the impact of high temperatures.

"If there are issues with the scalp, such as itching, redness, or dandruff, letting the scalp dry naturally will not help 100% with any shampoo or treatment," added the trichologist.

It's important to remember that the scalp should be clean and dry, so dry your hair with a hairdryer after washing.

Proper hair care

The trichologist also listed the main rules for hair care:

  • After washing your hair, don’t keep a towel on your head for more than 10-15 minutes; dry your hair with a hairdryer.
  • Adjust the airflow in the direction of hair growth and at a 45-degree angle.
  • Use special attachments according to your hair's needs (for straightening or caring for curls).
  • Don’t go to bed with wet hair.

Causes of hair fragility

Dryness and fragility of hair are pathological conditions characterized by spontaneous breakage and often occur due to careless treatment of hair.

Factors that can provoke increased fragility include:

  • Stomach disorders
  • Presence of parasitic infections
  • Frequent dyeing and regular chemical perms
  • Constant use of styling products (mousses, sprays, gels)
  • Washing hair with very hot water
  • Mechanical damage to hair
  • Vitamin deficiencies
  • Scalp oil depletion
