Hair loss can be treated with vitamins: True or false?
Hair loss is a fairly common issue among women. Typically, people respond to this problem by taking vitamins. However, is this the right approach, and does it work?
Here is a response from Ukrainian trichologist Yulia Dudii.
Can hair loss be treated with vitamins only
According to the expert, it depends on the type of hair loss you are experiencing.
If it is seasonal hair loss, then a complex of vitamins can certainly help.
However, if it is chronic telogen effluvium, a trichologist's assistance is necessary. This is because it’s essential to determine the cause of the hair loss.
The expert noted that often the cause is a deficiency of various vitamins and microelements, which require specific tests to correct.
“If we are dealing with androgenetic hair loss, then vitamins won’t help. In such cases, the problem of thinning, weakening, and hair loss cannot be solved without direct stimulation of the scalp, applying special products, and performing specific scalp treatments,” the trichologist explained.
Which vitamins and minerals are useful for hair loss
In general, to address the issue of hair loss, it’s advisable to consult a specialist.
Normally, a healthy person loses up to 100 hairs a day (a small bundle that remains while combing). In cases of excessive hair loss, vitamins for nourishment and restoration are necessary.
Recommended vitamins and minerals for hair loss include:
- Vitamin D (supports keratin production)
- Zinc (responsible for protein production)
- Vitamin C (promotes collagen synthesis)
- Iron (responsible for hemoglobin production)
- Vitamin B (improves metabolism)
B-group vitamins are involved in many biological processes in the body and are essential for the health of nerve and muscle tissues. Taking B-group vitamins helps reduce hair loss and accelerates hair growth.
