Hackers breach Russian State Statistics Service and seize real data on war casualties

Cyberpartisans and the Silent Crow movement hacked the internal IT infrastructure of Rosstat (the Russian Federal State Statistics Service) and exfiltrated approximately 23 TB of data, according to the Silent Crow Telegram channel.
The hackers noted that the operation covered the central apparatus of the agency, its regional divisions, and the Main Interregional Center for Processing and Dissemination of Statistical Information.
Approximately 25,000 machines came under the hackers' control.
Specialists gained access to domain controllers and compromised virtualization and infrastructure management systems, including ZVIRT, oVirt, and VMware ESXi.

The hackers stated that they managed to exfiltrate:
- The electronic document management system (EDMS).
- Critical information systems of the agency, including ESSO, AS DS OFSP, Demography, TSSOD, SUR, FPSR, and NSUD.
- Approximately 2 TB of documents from the "For Official Use Only" (DSP) network.
- Databases containing statistical, economic, and personal information, census materials, and data regarding Russian military losses in the war against Ukraine.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian military casualties (killed and wounded) may exceed 2 million people, according to The Economist.
In particular, Russia may have lost between 374,000 and 770,000 military personnel killed alone.
According to intelligence and analysts, Russian military losses in October reached a record high for the entire duration of the full-scale war.
At the same time, during this period, the Defense Forces of Ukraine liberated more territory than Russia was able to capture.
