Swedish activist Greta Thunberg was released on bail until March 2026 following her arrest in London at a pro-Palestinian protest, according to Reuters.

The British group Prisoners for Palestine stated that Thunberg was arrested under anti-terrorism legislation because of a sign reading: “I support the Palestine Action prisoners. I oppose genocide.”

The British government has previously designated the organization Palestine Action as a terrorist group.

The police also reported the arrest of two other individuals suspected of throwing red paint at the building. According to authorities, a 22-year-old woman was later arrested for displaying a sign in support of the banned organization.

Prisoners for Palestine stated that the building was targeted because it was used by an insurance company that, according to activists, provided services to the UK branch of the Israeli defense company Elbit Systems. The company has not commented on these claims.

How Greta Thunberg became known

Activist Greta Thunberg gained fame in 2018 after starting weekly climate protests outside the Swedish Parliament. Last year, a UK court acquitted her in a public order case, ruling that the police did not have the authority to arrest her during a previous protest in London.

In October, Thunberg was detained along with 478 others and deported from Israel after participating in the activist convoy Global Sumud Flotilla, which attempted to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Israel has repeatedly denied accusations of genocide.

Earlier, Swedish eco-activist Greta Thunberg was fined for disobeying police in 2023, when she refused to leave a climate protest at the port of Malmö.

In 2023, Thunberg met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and commented on the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric plant by Russian forces. She stated that the world’s reaction to the destruction by Russia was insufficient.
