Google resolves incident of exposed Ukrainian military equipment on maps
Google has resolved the issue with maps that exposed the military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), reports Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD).
"Google has fixed the map issue. Military objects and systems are no longer displayed. Everything will also be fine in the future," Kovalenko wrote.
Incident with Google Maps
On November 3, Kovalenko stated that Google had revealed the military systems of Ukrainian troops on updated images. Ukraine reached out to Google's office, but there was no immediate response to the inquiry.
That same day, after public reaction a Google representative announced that the company was already working to resolve the issue. Kovalenko also mentioned that Kyiv plans to discuss ways to address such issues promptly in the future.
Yesterday, on November 6, the head of the CCD announced plans to meet with Google representatives.
"I intend to explain to them that publishing maps showing the locations of Ukraine's military systems and objects, even if they are from year-old images, is unacceptable... Google also promised to 'blur' objects in the future – a correct decision," he added.
