Ukrainian athlete Anatolii Novopysmennyi has won another gold medal for Ukraine at the 2025 World Games, claiming victory in the powerlifting heavyweight category.

Novopysmennyi triumphs in heavyweight

Anatolii Novopysmennyi became the 2025 World Games champion in powerlifting among heavyweights.

Based on the results of his performance, the Ukrainian athlete scored 119.41 points, finishing nearly three points ahead of Sweden’s Gustav Hedlund. Third place also went to a Swede, Emil Norling.

Thanks to this victory, Ukraine stays in third place in the overall medal standings of the competition, with a total of 34 medals: 15 gold, 9 silver, and 10 bronze.

Ukrainian athletes showcase strength and skill

The day before, Ukrainian kickboxers won new medals. Daryna Ivanova and Alina Martyniuk triumphed in bronze medal bouts, while Hlib Mazur became champion in the under 63.5 kg category, and Roman Shcherbakov claimed gold in the over 91 kg category.

Sambo athletes also added to Ukraine’s medal count. Oleksandr Voropaiev won bronze in the under 64 kg category and also became champion in the team competition together with Anatolii Voloshynov, Petro Davydenko, Andrii Kucherenko, and Vladyslav Rudniev.

The athlete is a three-time world champion in classic powerlifting and a multiple medalist at European and world championships.
