Germany will purchase three HIMARS units from US and transfer them to Ukraine
Germany, in cooperation with the United States of America, will transfer additional High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) to Ukraine, according to a statement from German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius during a briefing with journalists.
"Together with the Americans, we will deliver three heavy HIMARS launcher systems to Ukraine," he said.
According to him, they are part of the inventory of other Western armed forces and will be funded by Germany.
"We have also once again decisively confirmed the importance of NATO, but especially our European partners, when it comes to how we support Ukraine, what significance, and what danger Putin's attack on Ukraine poses to security in Europe and the world," Pistorius said.
HIMARS is an American wheeled chassis rocket artillery system. Previously, the United States has transferred dozens of such systems to Ukraine, capable of precision strikes with long-range missiles on enemy rear positions.
Assistance to Ukraine from Germany
Germany significantly assists Ukraine militarily and provides Kyiv with artillery shells, tanks, and air defense systems.
For instance, in March, Pistorius announced the allocation of a military aid package to Ukraine worth more than half a billion dollars.
However, the Bild wrote that Ukraine received less military assistance than the German government claims.
