Germany to provide Ukraine with new AI drones Mini-Taurus
Germany is preparing to provide Ukraine with new technological support in times of war. The German company Helsing will supply Ukraine with 4,000 drones with artificial intelligence, reports Bild.
These drones, Mini-Taurus, will be equipped with modern systems that make them virtually invulnerable to Russian electronic warfare systems and GPS interference.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed the delivery of drones to Ukraine.
According to insiders, several hundred of these drones will be sent monthly starting in December. Several samples are currently being tested in eastern Ukraine in real combat conditions.
The Mini-Taurus is capable of analyzing the terrain and determining its location even in difficult weather conditions or destroyed infrastructure. This allows the drone to continue its mission even if a radio signal is lost, which significantly increases the accuracy of the strike.
The Mini-Taurus has a flight range four times longer than standard Ukrainian kamikaze drones but costs less than foreign counterparts. Bild does not disclose the exact cost, but the American Switchblade 600 costs about 100,000 euros, and the Russian Zala Lancet costs 35,000 euros.
Pistorius emphasized that Ukraine would be able to effectively use these drones against key Russian military targets, such as command posts and logistics centers. In the future, Germany may consider introducing similar technologies in its Bundeswehr.
Germany's assistance to Ukraine
In August, it became known that new requests for funding to help Ukraine would not be approved on the instructions of Chancellor Olaf Scholz. However, the German budget for 2024 already includes about 8 billion euros for military support for Ukraine.
Despite the restrictions, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that the government would be able to find additional resources to continue supplying weapons to Ukraine next year.
In October, German authorities updated the list of military aid. The equipment transferred to Ukraine includes Leopard 1A5 tanks and Marder infantry fighting vehicles.
