Germany suspends Oktoberfest over terrorist threat

Germany’s Oktoberfest festival has been suspended following a threat letter and a shooting in Munich, according to Bild.
According to the news agency, explosions and gunfire were heard last night in one of Munich’s districts.
Preliminary reports indicate that a 57-year-old man shot his father, injured his mother and daughter, and then set fire to the family home. The victims were hospitalized. A letter left by the perpetrator suggests that the motive was an inheritance dispute.
Afterward, the man took his own life at a lake in Munich, located about a five-minute drive from his home.
Early this morning, Bavarian special forces searched the perpetrator’s apartment. A confession letter was found there, which contained an "indirect threat to use explosives" at Oktoberfest.
As a result, the festival’s operations were temporarily suspended.
Bild reports that a police representative has confirmed that no explosives were found at the festival site during inspections. Therefore, Oktoberfest could resume today, depending on the coordination between local authorities, the police, and the organizers.
Bundeswehr plane incident
