Germany seeks defense tech swap with Ukraine: What Berlin wants

Germany has proposed concluding a bilateral agreement with Ukraine on the exchange of defense technologies. Alexander Hoffmann, a representative of the CSU in the Bundestag, stated that Berlin should use Ukraine's experience in the field of drones, counter-drone systems, and missile systems to strengthen its own defense capabilities, according to Bild.
According to the CSU representative, Germany remains one of the largest donors to Ukraine in the military, financial, and humanitarian spheres and intends to continue its support.
At the same time, he emphasized that cooperation should be bilateral: Ukraine can share with partners the practical experience gained during the full-scale war.
"We want to obligate Ukraine to share this experience with us so that we can become stronger together," Hoffmann said.
His words referred specifically to the proposal to conclude a corresponding agreement, not to an already adopted decision by the German government.
Special interest in drone production
Separately, the German politician emphasized the need for rapid scaling up of drone production.
According to him, in case of need, Germany must be able to quickly increase the output of such systems.
To this end, Berlin can use Ukrainian developments that were created during the war and adapted to real combat conditions.
Who else is interested in Ukraine's defense industry
Ukraine and the EU have launched a new format of defense partnership. It is intended to become the foundation of the Drone Deal and may later expand to other types of weapons.
In addition, the Netherlands and Denmark have become the eighth and ninth countries to join the international Drone Deal agreement. This will allow for joint production of drones and the development of cutting-edge technologies.
Furthermore, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Kyiv and Washington are close to concluding a Drone Deal agreement. According to him, the document provides for cooperation in drone production, as well as the construction of a large Ukrainian plant on US territory.
