Germany says agreement on arms supply to Kyiv is confidential
Berlin and Kyiv have an arms supply agreement. It is confidential and not subject to disclosure, according to a German Defense Ministry representative, reports Spiegel online.
"There is an agreement, but it is not for the public, in particular, on the use of specific combat systems," she said.
She reiterated the position of the German leadership that Berlin seeks to avoid involving in hostilities.
A heated debate has recently erupted over the ban on Ukraine using Western weapons on Russian territory. Some countries explicitly allow it, such as the UK and Sweden. Some countries are against it, such as Italy and Germany.
The US is not united on this issue, but the ban is likely to remain in place. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said during a recent visit to Kyiv that Ukraine decides on its own how to wage war. But some other officials in the Joe Biden administration oppose it.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called for lifting a ban on using weapons to strike military targets in Russia.
Germany is one of Kyiv's largest arms suppliers. Chancellor Olaf Scholz, however, refuses to give Ukraine Taurus missiles, which can reach remote targets deep inside Russia.
