Germany reveals timeline for Ukraine to acquire additional Patriot system
Ukraine will receive the Patriot air defense system from Germany in winter. Additional IRIS-T systems will be delivered "in the next few years," German Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Jaeger says in an interview with Ukrinform.
"The situation in the winter can now become very difficult. The Ukrainian side has done everything possible to prepare for this situation, and we have helped with the preparations. I have already talked about our air defense support. In addition to the mentioned IRIS-T systems, in the winter another will be deployed here one Patriot system from Germany," he says.
The ambassador specified that Ukraine already has four IRIS-T systems delivered from Germany and additional systems will be delivered "in the coming years".
German aid
Germany is one of the leaders among the countries that provide assistance to our troops. In particular, Berlin provided several types of artillery, Leopard tanks of older and new modifications, IRIS-T and Patriot air defense systems, ammunition, cars, drones, and other types of weapons.
In November, Air Force spokesman Yurii Ihnat announced that Ukraine would soon receive another Patriot anti-aircraft missile system from Germany. Currently, there are two divisions of this air defense on combat duty, which are capable of shooting down ballistic missiles, in particular, over Kyiv.
As Politico wrote, Western air defense has turned Kyiv into a rare safe place in warring Ukraine. Currently, several types of anti-aircraft defense of different radii are operating in the capital.
