Against the backdrop of Russian aggression, Germany is once again actively strengthening its military power, signaling its readiness to become one of Europe's key security players, according to The Telegraph.
According to the outlet, as part of sweeping reforms initiated by Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Berlin this year lifted all financial restrictions on defense spending, aiming to build one of the strongest armies on the continent.
"The overhaul has paved the way for massive equipment purchases of tanks, artillery, fighter planes and warships costing hundreds of billions of pounds, as the Bundeswehr prepares to face up to the threat posed by Vladimir Putin," the report said.
This move reflects Germany’s determination to strengthen its defense capabilities and readiness to respond to new geopolitical challenges.
It is worth noting that Germany also plans to give federal police the authority to intercept and destroy drones following a series of suspicious incidents; the corresponding bill is already being prepared for discussion.
Additionally, Germany intends to develop its own drone production to enhance national defense, support Ukraine, and protect key infrastructure facilities.
