Ukraine has received a shipment of energy equipment from Germany that will provide electricity and heat to 86,000 residents of Kyiv, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
"We have received the first batch of energy equipment from the German government as part of the winter emergency support package, which has been increased to €120 million," Svyrydenko says.
According to her, this includes two cogeneration units, generators, and other critically needed equipment that will help provide light and heat to more than 86,000 people in Kyiv, powering residential buildings, hospitals, kindergartens, and schools.
She also stresses that another 41 cogeneration units with a total capacity of 40.8 MW and 76 modular boiler rooms will arrive in Ukraine in the near future. They will be able to provide light and heat to millions of people across Ukraine.
"The emergency support package will include 300 solar stations, 375 battery storage units for backup power supply, 15 mobile hybrid generators, 10 pellet heating systems, and 45 units of construction equipment for urgent repair work," she adds.
The head of the Ukrainian government also notes that this winter, Germany provided €60 million for humanitarian needs and made a €167 million contribution to the Energy Support Fund, which Ukraine received in December.
Heating situation in Kyiv
As of the morning of January 29, 613 high-rise buildings remain without heat. At the same time, over the past day, heat supply has been restored to 124 buildings.
In addition, Kyiv has temporarily restricted the centralized supply of hot water to some high-rise buildings due to the difficult energy situation following massive attacks by the Russian Federation.
As noted by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, more than 1,000 utility workers are currently working to restore damaged critical infrastructure and bring heat back to Kyiv residents' homes.
