Germany and allies to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine soon - Scholz
Even after the war is over, Ukraine needs to be guaranteed a secure future. The allies will soon discuss security guarantees for Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said.
Scholz said that, first of all, it would be good if the war in Ukraine ended, but even then, they would still have to ensure a secure future for Ukraine.
He noted that the next step would be to talk about security guarantees and how Ukraine can maintain a strong army, which they will equip together. According to Scholz, the allies will discuss this issue soon.
The German Chancellor emphasized that they would discuss this with their allies soon, but that such speculations were currently prohibited. He added that nothing was decided over the heads of the Ukrainian people and that they were still far from peace.
Peacekeepers for Ukraine
Ukraine is discussing with its Western allies the issue of sending peacekeeping forces to Ukraine in the future. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, 200,000 European peacekeepers are needed to ensure sustainable peace in Ukraine.
France is the first country to support the possible deployment of peacekeepers to Ukraine in the future. However, not all allies are ready to send peacekeeping troops to Ukraine.
Zelenskyy noted that he had discussed the issue with France, Poland, and the Baltic states and that discussions with Britain were ongoing.
