Journalists from the German television channel ZDF were injured during an enemy attack in Kharkiv. At the time of the shelling, they were in the Kharkiv Palace hotel, reports ZDF.

Seven employees of ZDF were in the hotel at the time of the attack.

The journalists note that after the explosions, they took shelter in the hotel. However, the Ukrainian translator was injured, with a broken rib. The security guard also sustained injuries.

The German channel condemned the terrorist attack by Russians on civilian infrastructure.

"This is another attack by Russia on the free press. We hope that the injured colleagues will recover quickly. ZDF will continue to report on the war against the Ukrainian civilian population," says ZDF editor-in-chief Bettina Schausten.

What preceded this

On the evening of December 30, Russians shelled the center of Kharkiv, damaging the Kharkiv Palace hotel and a residential building.

During the night, Russians attacked Kharkiv with Shahed drones, causing hits in the city center. The police clarified that as a result of two waves of shelling in Kharkiv, 28 people were affected, including two children aged 14 and 16, and a foreigner.

The Russian Ministry of Defense came up with a cynical justification for the massive shelling of Kharkiv. Russians claimed they were retaliating for shelling in Belgorod.

Additionally, occupiers asserted that alleged representatives of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) and the Armed Forces of Ukraine were destroyed in the Kharkiv Palace hotel.
