German Defense Minister says Putin's war against Ukraine is no longer regional
Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine is no longer a regional one. Europe is facing a long-term threat, states German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
He noted that Russian leader Vladimir Putin has “completely switched to a military economy.” In particular, Russia produces as much weapons and ammunition in three months as the entire EU produces in one year.
“In his speech at the end of October, Putin spoke of a 'serious, irreconcilable struggle for a new world order,'” Pistorius emphasized.
According to him, Putin already sees himself as a winner in the war against Ukraine. At the same time, Pistorius said that a hybrid war with disinformation and fake news is in full swing.
“Our security is a fragile asset. Germany must accelerate and invest more in its military capabilities,” the German Defense Minister warned.
In September of this year, Boris Pistorius said that supporting Ukraine in the war started by Russia was costly for Germany. He added that the defeat of the Ukrainians due to the termination of assistance would cost much more.
The head of the German Defense Ministry then emphasized that if Putin is allowed to achieve his goals, the Kremlin leader will decide that the West is weak, and he, in turn, can do whatever he wants. Such a scenario could lead to a war against Moldova or Georgia, or Putin could decide to wage war on the Baltic states, which are NATO members.
