Georgian ruling party declared victory in elections before voting ended
Today, October 26, parliamentary elections are taking place in Georgia. The pro-Russian Georgian Dream party has already claimed victory, although the voting is not over, reports NEWSGEORGIA.
The Secretary General of the Georgian Dream and the Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, announced that the party had already won a majority in parliament. The statement was made 4 hours before the polls closed.
According to Kaladze, he learned about these results from the ruling party's election headquarters.
“The unprecedentedly high activity leaves no chance for the radical opposition to succeed,” he said.
Kaladze also called on the Georgian Dream electorate to “strain their strength even more to ensure that the party gets not just a simple, but a constitutional majority.”
Elections in Georgia
Today's parliamentary elections in Georgia may be the most tense in recent years. Citizens of this country will elect 150 deputies, and the ruling party will form the government and determine the domestic and foreign policy of Georgia for the next 4 years.
In particular, the pro-Russian Georgian Dream party and pro-European opposition parties are competing for the votes of Georgian voters.
In the Georgian city of Marneuli, a massive ballot stuffing was recorded at a polling station. The voting results were canceled. This is not the first case of fraud in the country.
