Georgia's election commission recounted votes, says election results remain unchanged
Georgia's Central Election Commission (CEC) has recounted votes at 366 polling stations selected by lottery. The voting results remained unchanged at 344 of these stations, according to the CEC's website.
The CEC says that the 333 polling stations, where the voting results remained unchanged, accounted for 91.25% of all selected stations for verification.
"At the other 32 electoral precincts, the data of the summary protocol have been slightly changed," the CEC said in a statement.
Members of the district and precinct election commissions, including members appointed by political parties and those elected on a professional basis, were involved in the vote recount process.
"Several members, appointed by political parties, counted the polling results themselves. The results were identical to the numbers indicated in the summary protocols, however, these members refused to sign the recounting acts, and did not support the commission ordinance at the meetings," the CEC added.
Parliamentary election in Georgia
On Saturday, Oct. 26, parliamentary elections took place in Georgia. During the voting, there were reports of mass ballot stuffing, the issuance of multiple ballots to one person, and clashes.
According to the CEC of Georgia, the pro-Russian party Georgian Dream, which has been governing the country for over ten years, received more than 54% of the votes. The opposition immediately refused to recognize the election results. Protests against the announced voting results began in Tbilisi.
Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili also did not recognize the election results, calling them falsified. Following these statements, she was summoned to the prosecutor's office.
