Future US Ambassador to UN promises to support Trump's mission to end war in Ukraine
The nominee for US Ambassador to the UN, Elise Stefanik, will support President Donald Trump's mission to end Russia's war against Ukraine. In particular, she will promote his concept of peace through strength, Stefanik made this statement during a hearing in the US Senate, according to NBC News.
Stefanik shared how she will use her role at the UN to help end the war in Ukraine.
"My effort will be supporting President Trump's mission to bring that to a resolution, and to deter Russia in the long term," she said.
According to Stefanik, she has a "strong record when it comes to deterring Russia, pushing back on Russia, including during President Trump's term, voting for defensive lethal aid to Ukraine."
"I believe peace through strength is our strongest deterrence, and I'm very proud that during President Trump's first term, it was the only president where Putin did not invade another country because of that strong peace-through-strength leadership," the future US Ambassador to the UN stated.
When asked how she plans to hold Russia accountable, Stefanik said she would work with the White House National Security Council and Trump's Cabinet "to use this position at the United Nations to support his strategy, and give him maximum flexibility to bring this to a resolution."
In November 2024, elected US President Donald Trump nominated a candidate for the position of US Permanent Representative to the UN. The nominee was Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.
She was one of the authors of a bill that included sanctions against Russia's financial and energy sectors and increased US military aid to Ukraine prior to Russia's invasion.
However, at the same time, the Congresswoman voted against allocating $61 billion in new funding to Ukraine this year.
She justified her decision by stating that, although she supports the idea of military assistance to Ukraine, she cannot support providing additional funds for non-lethal aid amid the crisis at the US-Mexico border.
