Future of US-promised munitions for Ukrainian Armed Forces in March: State Department's response
Ukraine will immediately be able to use the shells from the United States, which Washington announced in March as part of the latest military aid package. There will be no need to save them, stated the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien during a meeting with journalists.
The American official reminded that back in March, the US announced the supply of artillery shells to Ukraine as part of the military aid package. In his opinion, after the arrival of additional assistance from the US, which will start once Congress allocates funds for it, the shells will be "available for use".
He said that Ukraine had to save the shells supplied by the United States because it was not known when the next deliveries would begin.
"And I think now they'll be available for use more quickly. So in a way, the gap just shrunk because items that were being saved for next month can now be used right away, and they're already here," the official added.
Shells from the United States
On March 12, the US government announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine. It was the first in several months.
As part of the package, Ukraine was supposed to receive anti-aircraft missiles, HIMARS ammunition, as well as 155mm artillery shells.
Ukraine has not received assistance from the US for such a long time because American legislators did not pass a bill on new funding to aid the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
