From Kherson to runway fame - Ukrainian model just broke into the worlds top 50

Model Yura Romaniuk, originally from the Kherson region, has made it into the ranking of the 50 best models in the world according to the prestigious platform Models.com, reports Vogue Ukraine.

The Kherson native became the first person in the world to simultaneously appear in both the male and female model rankings, reflecting the industry's evolving view of gender and style.
Yurii has made a rapid breakthrough into the world of high fashion. Over the past few seasons, he has worked with major fashion houses such as Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs, Saint Laurent, and other leading brands.
In 2023, he was featured on a digital cover of Vogue Ukraine, and in the spring of 2024, he appeared on the printed cover of a special issue dedicated to Ukrainian youth.
How Yurii began his modeling career
His path to fashion began with a spontaneous, creative photo shoot on social media. In 2022, Yurii said he had always enjoyed experimenting with clothing and photographing himself in unusual looks.
It was one of these photo sessions that caught the attention of a modeling agent in Kyiv, who discovered him on Instagram.

Soon after, he made his debut on the Paris runway for Miu Miu, becoming the only model from Ukraine on the catwalk.
"That was my first show. I was very scared—cameras in front, dozens of eyes watching, and huge responsibility. But at that moment, I realized: this is my thing," he recalled in an interview.
At that time, Romaniuk was still a fourth-year student in the design department at Kherson National Technical University, studying clothing and footwear design.

Today, he is a graduate and continues to develop himself not only as a model but also as a designer with his vision of fashion.
Yurii is an advocate of recycling. He has said that he creates garments from improvised materials, sews by hand, and experiments with forms while consciously avoiding fast fashion.
"I like giving things a new life. I sew from ties, old shirts, I use a needle and thread. It's my way of self-expression," he explains.

He currently lives in the Netherlands, having left the occupied city of Kherson, but continues to actively work in the industry.
