French President Emmanuel Macron has demonstrated his determination to do more to help Ukraine in its war with Russia. Not discussing the use of French capabilities would be a serious mistake, says Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister Delegate for European Affairs at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"The struggle of Ukrainians is also our struggle. By resisting the invader, they are fighting for the security of Europe and France, because Vladimir Putin's imperialist fantasies are clearly not limited to Ukraine," the Minister Delegate said.

Barrot recalled Macron's meeting with EU leaders, which, according to him, demonstrated the unity and determination of these countries to do more, better, and differently to meet the needs of the Ukrainian resistance.

"It would be a serious mistake to exclude the discussion of our options. It would be criminal to give in to a spirit of surrender. Our firmness in the face of Putin is the key to our security," he emphasized.

Macron and sending troops to Ukraine

A few days ago, after a meeting with EU leaders, Macron did not rule out sending NATO troops to help Ukraine. The main problem, he said, is that there is currently no consensus on this issue.

A number of NATO countries have already opposed this idea, including Germany, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Spain, and Italy.

However, some countries are ready to consider this possibility, such as Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.

Canada, which is also a NATO member, has stated that it is ready to send troops to Ukraine, but only to train Ukrainian soldiers away from the front.
