Ukrainian intel reveals key role of civilians freed from Russian captivity

During today's major prisoner exchange, Ukraine managed to bring home not only military personnel but also a special group of civilians, according to Representative of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Andrii Yusov.
"This was the eighth stage of the large-scale prisoner exchange agreed upon in Istanbul. Today brings good news — we were able to bring back seriously ill, wounded, and young defenders," said Ukrainian intelligence representative Andrii Yusov.
He noted that the freed defenders came from various fronts, including soldiers who defended Mariupol. Among them were enlisted personnel, sergeants, and officers.
"In addition to military personnel, a group of civilians was also returned — in particular, medics who had been providing medical assistance," Yusov added.
He also emphasized that some of the individuals released had been illegally convicted and imprisoned in Russia.
Prisoner exchange
On July 4, Ukraine and Russia carried out another stage of their ongoing prisoner exchange. This marked the eighth exchange under the agreements reached in Istanbul in June.
The previous stage took place on Thursday, June 26, during which Ukraine secured the return of servicemen from the Navy, Ground Forces, Air Assault Forces, Territorial Defense Forces, as well as the National Guard and the State Border Guard Service.
As with previous exchanges, the exact number of released individuals has not been disclosed.
