France to deliver Mirage 2000 fighter jets to Ukraine - Macron
Ukraine will receive fighter jets from France as part of military assistance. A pilot training program will also be provided, according to French President Emmanuel Macron.
“France is helping the Ukrainians resist, but we don't want an escalation,” he said.
Macron added that tomorrow, during his meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he plans to initiate new cooperation.
This includes providing Ukraine with Mirage 2000 aircraft and training pilots.
What is known about this aircraft
The French fourth-generation multi-role fighter was developed in the 1970s by Dassault Aviation. It has been in service since 1984.
It was the main combat aircraft of the French Air Force at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st century. It is also in service in several countries in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
Mirage for Ukraine
Last year, journalists wrote about the transfer of Mirage aircraft to Ukraine, but Air Force representatives rejected this idea, stating they were focused on the delivery of F-16s.
