In the US, the former head of a US government contractor may have sold commercial secrets to Russia for $1.3 million, according to Reuters.

An investigation revealed that Peter Williams, former head of a US government contractor, stole eight trade secrets from two unknown companies between April 2022 and June 2025 and attempted to sell them to a buyer in Russia.

In this way, Russia could gain access to hacking technologies used by American and other intelligence services, potentially increasing the risk of attacks on federal systems and helping adversaries strengthen their cyber defenses.

Reuters writes that according to British records, Williams served as a director at L3Harris Trenchant from October 2024 until his resignation in August 2025. The company develops hacking tools for national security purposes and cooperates with the US government.

Prosecutors believe Williams earned $1.3 million from the sale of the data and are seeking to confiscate his home in Washington, as well as expensive watches and jewelry.

L3Harris Trenchant said it has launched an internal investigation into the possible leak. Williams himself could not be found — he is listed as an Australian citizen and US resident.

A hearing in the case is scheduled for October 29, where a plea agreement is expected to be considered.

Rumors of so-called sex war between Russia and US

Earlier, rumors surfaced in the media that Russia and China were attempting to recruit Silicon Valley specialists through social media.

To achieve this, they utilize the profiles of young, attractive women.

In particular, two women tried to attend a conference discussing the risks of Chinese investment.
