Products with indefinite shelf life: What doesn't spoil over time
Some products do not have an expiration date. They can be stored indefinitely or for many years under favorable conditions. Even if these products have been in your pantry for several years, they pose no threat to your health, writes Cookist.
Instant coffee
Those who consume instant coffee infrequently should know that it can be stored for a very long time. The secret is to divide the coffee into small portions, store them in the freezer, and thaw them when needed.
Salt
To preserve salt for a long time, it needs to be mixed with rice. Salt is hygroscopic, so it should be kept in a dry and cool place.
Liquors and alcoholic beverages
Alcohol is a distillate, and therefore, it prevents bacteria from multiplying. Liquors and alcoholic beverages can be stored for a very long time in closed, fresh, and dark places.
Wine vinegar
This vinegar has no expiration date, and it also does not change its taste over time. Like all other long-lasting products, it should be kept in a dry and cool place.
Sugar
Sugar is a product with no expiration date since bacteria cannot multiply in it. That's why it is used as a preservative for jams and preserves.
Starch
Corn and potato starch should be stored tightly closed in a dry and cool place. It has no expiration date. The downside is that it tends to absorb moisture and odors from nearby products.
Honey
Over time, honey may change color or crystallize, but that does not mean it cannot be consumed. To make honey more liquid, simply place the open jar in a water bath. This rule applies only if you store honey in a cool place.
Maple syrup
It can be kept in the freezer to extend its shelf life. If you don't use it often, you can divide it into small portions and store it in the freezer.
Legumes
They belong to the category of products that can be stored for a very long time. They can be dry or canned. The main thing is to keep them in a dry and cool place.
Rice, oats
These products can last for years if stored in a dry and cool place, protected from insects and dust. Grains should be tightly sealed.
