Following YouTube blocking: Google permanently disables monetization in Russia
Google AdSense contextual advertising service will completely cease operations on the Russian internet. User accounts from Russia will be deactivated, The Moscow Times reports.
"We are deactivating all AdSense accounts with Russia as their country of location. This means that you will no longer be able to receive monetization revenue through such accounts," the Google Payments team stated.
It is also reported that Russians will receive their earnings for July between August 21 and 26. However, this will only happen if payments are not suspended on the account and payment thresholds are met.
Earlier, it was reported that Russian bloggers could earn on YouTube through Google AdSense even after monetization was turned off in 2022. This means that website owners and bloggers working on YouTube in Russia will completely lose access to Google AdSense and the services provided by the advertising network.
What preceded
Recently, the video hosting service YouTube stopped being accessible on computers and mobile devices in Russia. The likely reason is a decision by the Russian authorities to slow down YouTube’s operation. These actions are supposedly a response to YouTube's policy of consistently removing channels of Russian political figures.
Specifically, earlier this year, YouTube blocked over 40 Russian state television and radio broadcasting companies' regional channels.
