Flights in Greece experienced disruptions due to problems with the radio frequencies used to manage air traffic, according to Kathimerini.

According to the outlet, information about the malfunction emerged late in the morning. Preliminary reports indicate a failure in the radio frequencies of the air traffic control center near Athens. This center plays a key role in communication with pilots of all aircraft entering the country’s airspace.

In response to the incident, authorities temporarily suspended departures from Greek airports and focused on safely landing aircraft already in the air. Some passengers on flights preparing for departure were asked to disembark and wait for further instructions.

Around 1:00 p.m. local time, partial resolution of the problem was announced, and delayed flights began departing gradually.

The cause of the technical failure has not yet been determined, and relevant services are conducting an investigation.

As a reminder, earlier reports indicated GPS signal disruptions over northern Europe. The likely cause was attributed to the use of a Russian electronic warfare base in the Kaliningrad region.

Later, very high levels of GPS jamming were recorded in northern and eastern Poland, including Warsaw and south to the city of Łódź. In addition, Estonia stated that Russia was responsible for GPS signal disruptions in the Baltic Sea region.
