He provided a list of five foods that he believes can help you fall asleep faster.
The first snack is almonds.
The expert said that these nuts are a great choice as they contain magnesium, which helps relax muscles and promotes sleep.
Almonds are also packed with healthy fats and protein, keeping you full through the night. Sufficient magnesium intake, in particular, can improve sleep quality for those with insomnia.
Next, Dr. Mandell recommended Greek yogurt, explaining that it’s high in protein and can stabilize blood sugar levels, promoting satiety. It also contains tryptophan, an amino acid that boosts serotonin production.
Cherries are the third snack, known for their natural melatonin content, which regulates the sleep-wake cycle.
Studies have shown that eating cherries before bed can improve sleep quality and duration.
Tart cherry juice provides a moderate amount of essential nutrients like magnesium and phosphorus and is rich in antioxidants.
Fourth on Dr. Mandell’s list are eggs.
The doctor explained that hard-boiled eggs are high in protein and contain the amino acid tryptophan, which supports the production of serotonin and melatonin to aid sleep.
Rounding out the list are herbal teas, especially chamomile and lavender. They are caffeine-free and help improve sleep and relaxation.
