First frosts coming to Ukraine: Electricity situation reported
The first frosts are expected in the coming days in some regions of Ukraine. Energy officials believe that the drop in temperatures will not lead to the return of blackout schedules, according to Deputy Energy Minister Mykola Kolisnyk.
“No (there will be no schedules - ed.), the power system is working steadily today. The frosts that are forecasted will not be long,” he says.
Kolisnyk notes that the heating season begins with the decision of local authorities when the air temperature drops below +8°C for more than three consecutive days.
According to him, the energy system is affected by prolonged temperature drops, as this leads to a systemic increase in electricity consumption.
“To date, the necessary set of measures has been implemented, for example, all technical measures to prepare the operation of nuclear generation facilities have been carried out ahead of schedule. We already have nine units in the power system, which adds capacity and enables us to cover the increased demand,” the Deputy Minister adds.
According to weather forecasters, temperatures are expected to drop in Ukraine starting October 14. The first-night frosts are expected.
Situation with electricity in Ukraine
Russians continue to shell Ukraine's energy sector. The Ukrainian government warned citizens that the upcoming winter could be difficult due to the energy situation.
However, Ukraine has not yet returned to blackouts. Power engineers have reported that all nuclear power units have been repaired, which will add capacity to Ukrainian generation.
Yesterday, on October 12, power outages were reported in 10 regions of Ukraine. The reasons for this were Russian shelling, bad weather, and technological disruptions.
