Finland’s President names conditions for Ukraine’s security guarantees

Work is underway to provide security guarantees for Ukraine. However, such measures will require a peace agreement first, Reuters reports.
“We need to coordinate the security arrangements with the United States, which essentially will provide the backstop for this ... We're focusing on these issues with our chiefs of defence, which are drawing the concrete plans of what this type of operation might look like,” President of Finland Alexander Stubb told reporters.
Progress and lack of optimism
The Finnish President also noted progress in this direction. “We're making progress on this and hopefully we’ll get a solution soon,” he added.
At the same time, Stubb clarified that he is not overly optimistic about the prospects for a peace agreement or ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia in the near future.
Negotiations
Stubb took part in a trip of several European leaders to Washington in August. There, they held a joint meeting with US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss prospects for peace between Russia and Ukraine.
The leaders of several European countries will meet in Paris on Thursday, September 4, to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will also take part in this meeting.
Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin, while in China, declared his intention to continue the war against Ukraine until the “root causes” are eliminated, that is, until Ukraine’s independence is destroyed.
