Finland prepares draft law for closing border with Russia
Finland may completely close the border with Russia. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is preparing a relevant draft law, according to MTV3.
According to the media, such a draft law is being developed as a backup plan in case the number of asylum seekers in Finland sharply increases.
Sources told journalists that there is currently no need for such a measure. Therefore, the State Council of Finland (government) will not convene for an additional session this weekend.
Currently, the government wants to observe how the closure of four border crossing points will affect the number of people seeking asylum before implementing more serious measures at the border.
Meanwhile, the situation at the border crossings is calm, according to MTV3.
Background
Earlier, Finland decided to close four border crossings with Russia. It was explained by the large number of refugees seeking asylum.
The crossing points will stop operating on the night of November 17-18.
