Finland may extend border closure with Russia, Finnish Prime Minister
The Finnish government is closely monitoring the situation on the border with Russia and will decide on the feasibility of opening border posts no later than next Wednesday, December 13, according to Yle.
"We continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis, and the goal is to return to normal life," Orpo said.
In his comments to the newspaper, the Finnish prime minister did not predict a decision.
"We are happy that everything is fine now, but the decision (to open or extend the ban - ed.) will be made in due time," the prime minister added.
Closing the Finnish border with Russia
On November 30, the Finnish government decided to temporarily close all border crossings with Russia.
Before that, Finland began blocking entry from Russia due to the influx of illegal migrants. For example, the Finnish Border Guard Service banned entry to people who ride a bicycle through checkpoints on the border with Russia.
Amid the migrant crisis, Finland closed four checkpoints on the border with Russia on November 18, and on November 22, the Finnish government decided to close almost all border crossings.
