Finland extends border closure with Russia for two more months
The Finnish government has decided to extend the closure of the border with Russia for another two months. Thus, border crossings will remain closed at least until April 14, according to Yle.
According to previous decisions, the closure was supposed to end on Sunday, February 11.
The closure was justified by the fact that Russia is smuggling asylum seekers to the border to put pressure on Finland.
Closing of Finland's borders with Russia
On November 30 last year, Finland decided to close all border crossings on its border with Russia. This was due to the influx of illegal migrants from Russia.
On December 13, the government revised its decision and reopened two checkpoints. But a few days later, the border had to be closed completely again due to a new wave of migrants.
Already in January of this year, the Finnish government decided to extend the closure of the border with Russia until at least February 11.
By the way, the Finnish Prime Minister rejected the possibility of opening the border with Russia. According to him, the problem with illegal migrants has not been resolved.
