Constant fatigue that does not go away even after a long sleep may be a sign of serious health issues.
Mirror reports on the main reason why you might feel exhausted.
What tiredness might indicate
Dr. Sermed Mezher explained that persistent fatigue is often a symptom of underlying health conditions.
Feeling tired from time to time is normal. Poor sleep, excessive physical activity, or prolonged use of gadgets can all contribute. However, if exhaustion lasts for weeks and does not improve with rest, it is a warning sign.
The doctor also commented on the widely discussed issue of vitamin D deficiency. According to him, a lack of this vitamin is one of the causes of severe fatigue and can be easily detected with a blood test.
People with vitamin D deficiency may also experience muscle and joint pain. The UK National Health Service (NHS) recommends taking vitamin D supplements daily from October to March.
Other causes of constant fatigue
Dr. Mezher emphasized that there are also many more serious causes of chronic fatigue. One of them is obstructive sleep apnea. People who snore loudly, wake up frequently at night, are overweight, or have a constantly blocked nose may experience poor-quality sleep. This prevents the body from recovering and leads to severe exhaustion during the day.
Other symptoms can include pauses in breathing during sleep, sudden wheezing or shortness of breath, morning headaches, difficulty concentrating, and sudden mood swings.
Another possible cause is myalgic encephalomyelitis, also known as chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS).
According to Dr. Mezher, if severe fatigue develops after a viral infection and worsens sharply even after minor physical or mental effort, it may be this condition.
Doctors stress that if fatigue becomes chronic and interferes with daily life, it should not be ignored, and medical advice should be sought promptly.
