In New Orleans, a car drove into a crowd during New Year's celebrations. The FBI is investigating the incident as a terrorist act, states US President Joe Biden, according to the White House website.

US President Joe Biden stated that from the early morning, the leadership of federal law enforcement agencies and his internal security team have been briefing him on the horrific incident that occurred overnight in New Orleans.

"The FBI is taking the lead in the investigation and is investigating this incident as an act of terrorism," Biden emphasized.

He also expressed gratitude for the brave and swift response of local law enforcement in preventing further deaths and injuries.

"I have directed my team to ensure every resource is available as federal, state, and local law enforcement work assiduously to get to the bottom of what happened as quickly as possible and to ensure that there is no remaining threat of any kind," the president stated.

Biden added that he would receive updates throughout the day and provide more information when it becomes available.

"n the meantime, my heart goes out to the victims and their families who were simply trying to celebrate the holiday. There is no justification for violence of any kind, and we will not tolerate any attack on any of our nation’s communities," he concluded.
