On Thursday evening, January 18, residents of the temporarily occupied Crimea were left without electricity. Most major cities on the peninsula are without power, according to local Telegram channels.

According to locals, there is no electricity in Sevastopol, Feodosia, Saki, Yevpatoriia, and Kerch.

Preliminary information suggests that the reason for the power outage is an emergency shutdown in the Crimea energy system. According to local reports, at 18:05, the gas equipment at the Balaklava thermal power station allegedly malfunctioned, leading to the disconnection of two power units.

Due to the lack of power supply, there is a transportation collapse on the streets of the cities due to malfunctioning traffic lights.

Strikes on Crimea

According to Defense Intelligence, in the temporarily occupied Crimea, on January 4, ammunition depots were destroyed, and the position of radar stations was also affected.

Additionally, the Strategic Communications Ukraine of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that near the occupied Sevastopol, a point of convergence of Russian forces was targeted. Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykola Oleshchuk, reported that the operation was carried out with the involvement of Ukrainian pilots.

A satellite image depicting recent strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on an object in the temporarily occupied Crimea has been circulated on the internet, showing the damage likely inflicted by Ukrainian forces in early January.
