Situation in Donetsk

Donetsk has been under Russian occupation since 2014. Lately, there have been more frequent explosions in the occupied city. Russians accuse Ukraine of shelling the civilian population.

The Ukrainian authorities and the military emphasize that they do not attack civilians but only target Russian occupiers.

In September 2023, occupiers reintroduced a curfew in the captured part of the Donetsk region. The occupiers also imposed "war censorship," affecting mailings and phone calls.
