Explosion at chemical plant in Germany: 14 people injured
On Monday, July 29, an explosion occurred at a plant of the BASF chemical concern in the German city of Ludwigshafen. Fourteen employees were injured, according to SWR.
An explosion occurred at a plant in Ludwigshafen on the morning of July 29. Witnesses saw a large plume of smoke rising above the building.
Emergency services, police, and environmental inspectors were called to the scene. The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation.
According to BASF, 14 employees sustained minor injuries from the explosion and received first aid on-site.
According to preliminary data, the fire caused a release of flue gases, so residents of Ludwigshafen and nearby settlements were asked not to open windows and doors.
BASF also reported that, following the explosion, a slight increase in hydrocarbon levels was detected at the plant and in neighboring areas of the Friesenheim community, but there is no danger to the public.
