Expert on Trump's rare earth metal comments: Calm response and dialogue needed

The proposal by US President Donald Trump regarding rare earth metals should be taken seriously, says Ukrainian diplomat and historian Roman Bezsmertny in a comment to the YouTube channel RBC-Ukraine.
"What Trump is saying is the second proposal that deserves attention after his statements about crude oil extraction volumes. This is a serious matter. It should be taken seriously. However, it should be understood that Donald Trump himself probably has no idea what he said. He likely doesn’t understand the scale, and he probably doesn’t realize its significance. Because it’s unlikely that even those who are writing about this largely understand what this means for the United States, what it means for Ukraine," Bezsmertny said.
According to the expert, this topic needs a calm and measured response. The issue of rare earth metals is a constant topic; the demand for them will continue to grow.
"Therefore, this track might be in development. The question is how to do it, with whom to do it, and so on. But it’s important. Next, the so-called phrase (Trump’s - ed.) 'serious progress' in this area. I would call it not somewhat exaggerated, but exaggerated in this regard. Because, apart from the fact that participants in this process became somewhat aware of the tactical situation, Russia’s tool, in fact, nothing more has been revealed, because the Russian Federation started an intensified information artillery preparation around the world. And there is just mockery over the information field with numerous variations," the Ukrainian expert emphasized.
Rare earth metals in Ukraine
Recently, US President Donald Trump stated that his country could continue to assist Ukraine in exchange for Ukrainian rare earth metals. He also mentioned that Washington is working on guarantees for Ukraine.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that such resources are strategically valuable and could strengthen Ukraine. In particular, within the framework of the victory plan, Ukraine proposed to the US and other Western allies to conclude an agreement on the protection of these critical resources, joint investment, and the use of economic potential.
