Low-calorie foods can provide the body with essential nutrients without triggering the accumulation of excess fat. You can consume them in ample amounts, but it's still essential to monitor your daily calorie intake. Trainer Yurii Popko on Instagram reports on products that preserve your figure.

How to eat generously without gaining weight

"We all gain weight from an excess of calories, especially when we still have half a day ahead and have already reached our daily calorie norm. Beyond that point, whatever we eat will exceed the limit. The only question is how much we overeat," explains the trainer.

Popko shares some life hacks to help you eat abundantly without worrying about your figure.

"But if you systematically overeat highly caloric products, you won't feel the difference. However, if you start replacing caloric foods with these, there's a high probability that you'll lose weight or at least won't continue gaining," says Popko.

Top low-calorie foods

"Proteins provide a long-lasting feeling of fullness; it's our primary building material. It's essential for everyone, whether you're gaining muscle mass or losing weight," says the expert.

For the body to digest protein products, it requires a lot of energy, specifically 30% of the consumed product.

"Choose high-protein products with low fat content. Lean fish varieties work well. Typically, freshwater fish has a low-fat percentage, but not always, so it's important to pay attention to its composition," emphasizes Popko.

Low-calorie fish and seafood:

  • Pike
  • Crucian carp
  • Zander
  • Perch
  • Hake
  • Alaskan pollock
  • Flounder
  • Squid
  • Shrimp

"Lean meat and chicken are beneficial. Keep in mind that different parts of the carcass have different calorie counts. When it comes to chicken, opt for fillets; thighs, on the other hand, are not suitable—there's five times more fat, and even if you remove the skin, it won't help much," says the trainer.

Popko notes that despite common belief, rabbit is not very dietetic, so it's not advisable to overconsume.

"Eggs are a super source of protein, but yolks are fatty. Therefore, it's better to separate them from the whites," advises the expert.

He also recommends consuming 5% cottage cheese, but it should not be confused with hard cheeses, which are high in fat.

"The calorie content of fruits and berries varies significantly depending on the variety and type. Choose those that are more acidic and juicy. Prefer local berries; you can freeze them," says Popko.

He includes citrus fruits, pears, apricots, apples, kiwis, pineapples, and watermelon among low-calorie fruits. However, dried fruits should be avoided as they are very calorie-dense. It's not advisable to overindulge in bananas. On the other hand, you can eat a lot of greens and vegetables.
