Russia and Belarus plan to hold joint exercises on Belarusian territory this year. During this period, the threat to Ukraine will increase, states the spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andrii Demchenko, during a national telethon live broadcast.

Demchenko emphasized that Ukraine has not yet detected any grouping or formation of enemy troops on Belarusian territory near the border. However, the threat remains.

"At the same time, the exercises announced by Belarus and Russia, which will take place on part of Belarusian territory and may involve units of the Russian army, represent a risk for Ukraine, and the threat will increase during this period," he added.

According to the spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service, Ukrainian forces are closely monitoring the situation in Belarus, as well as the movements of enemy troops.

"Our task is to strengthen our defensive capabilities and to monitor the situation directly along the border with Belarus and deeper into its territory, especially if Russian units are redeployed there," Demchenko said.

Russia-Belarus military exercises

Russia and Belarus have planned to hold joint military exercises in 2025. They are expected to take place in the fall.

As noted by Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys, NATO will prepare a response to such actions by Moscow and Minsk.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently suggested that Russia and Belarus might be "preparing something" under the guise of exercises.
