Evolution of phones: Top 15 most popular devices from Nokia bricks to iPhones
Since their inception, mobile phones have evolved in design and functionality, becoming one of the most ubiquitous technologies worldwide. Analysts have analyzed data from Wikipedia, Yahoo Finance, and the reports of the analytical company Omdia to compile a ranking of the best-selling phones and smartphones globally, reports Visual Capitalist.
Few will be surprised that the legendary Nokia 1100 smartphone took the first place in the ranking – over the six years it was on sale, 250 million devices were sold worldwide.
In the second place was the Nokia 1110, a revised version of the same phone released two years later, with a total of 248 million units sold.

The third position was taken by the iPhone 6 generation, which required combining data for the standard and Plus versions due to statistical peculiarities. The total number of devices sold was 222 million.
Completing the top five are representatives of the same manufacturers: Nokia 105 (200 million) and iPhone 6s/6s Plus (174 million).
The only device in the list that does not belong to Nokia and Apple is the Samsung E1100 – a budget phone with a color screen, released in 2009 and sold until 2012.
