US President Donald Trump is confident that he made the right decision by lifting sanctions against Russia. He also believes everyone supports his decision, according to Rapid Response.

Trump is confident in his decision

Journalists asked the US president whether he had discussed with Senator Darline Graham a bill proposed by her late brother, Lindsey, that would impose major sanctions on Russia and Iran.

Trump said the senator agreed with his decision not to impose sanctions on Russia.

"Everyone thinks I did the right thing because we were able to get a great person back (American Stephen Hubbard, who was held in a Russian penal colony — ed.)," he said.

Trump noted that Hubbard could be called a "hostage or prisoner," but had just landed in the US.

Senator Graham disagrees

Earlier, The New York Times reported that Senator Darline Graham had gently expressed disagreement with the US president's decision to exempt Russia from sanctions legislation.

"Personally, I would choose to put the pressure on Russia to end the war and get gas prices down. Because I don’t trust Putin, and I don’t trust Russia," she told reporters at a campaign event.

Graham said her brother Lindsey's bill, known as the Graham Act, gives the US president the tools to end the war in Ukraine through economic sanctions.

Hubbard's release

On October 20, Russian leader Vladimir Putin ordered the release of US citizen Stephen Hubbard from captivity at the request of US President Donald Trump.

Hubbard was captured by Russian forces on April 2, 2022. According to the American, Russian troops abducted him from his own home.

The Moscow City Court found Hubbard guilty of participating in combat on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces as a mercenary and sentenced him to six years and ten months in a penal colony.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that 23 US congressmen had written a letter to President Donald Trump, asking him to pressure Elon Musk to give Ukraine full access to Starlink satellite systems.
