Everyone does it wrong: How to apply deodorant properly
The deodorant ensures freshness and a pleasant scent throughout the day. However, there is a way to make the deodorant more effective for as long as possible, according to the Express website.
How to apply deodorant correctly
American dermatologist Lindsey Zubritsky shared a life hack on how to apply deodorant to make it as effective as possible for a longer period.
According to her, it's a big mistake to not apply deodorant at night.
As it turns out, sweat glands are less active at night. Therefore, our body absorbs antiperspirant more actively.
The doctor added that antiperspirants are more effective when applied at night due to the natural cooling of the body during sleep preparation - a process influenced by increased melatonin production.
Melatonin is a natural hormone mainly produced by the pineal gland in the brain. This process is regulated by the sleep-wake cycle, meaning it is influenced by light exposure.
"Melatonin is a natural hormone mainly produced by the pineal gland in the brain and regulated by our sleep-wake cycle, which means it’s influenced by light exposure," says the dermatologist.
The specialist noted that applying deodorant or antiperspirant at night simultaneously with an increase in melatonin levels can increase effectiveness in combating sweat and body odor.
Difference between deodorant and antiperspirant
The difference is actually very simple. Antiperspirant is a product for underarms that contains special ingredients (often aluminum salts) capable of blocking sweat.
In turn, deodorant does not stop sweating but helps to mask or suppress odor with the help of other components.
Antiperspirants stop sweat odor using aluminum, which plugs your sweat glands for approximately 12-24 hours before they naturally come out of the pores, and the product will need to be reapplied.
Both products not only help to maintain freshness throughout the day but are also beneficial for the skin.
