European Commission opposes Russian gas and thanks Ukrainian Energy Minister
The European Commission opposed uncontrolled supplies of Russian liquefied natural gas to the EU and thanked Ukraine's Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko for participating in the EU Ministerial Summit and taking a principled stand on this issue, according to the European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson.
“Using Russian LNG is not a necessity. It’s a dangerous political choice. The costs of dealing with Russia are not just measured in the price of gas, but also in the lives lost in Ukraine. Thank you, for joining our meeting & giving the overview of situation in Ukraine,” the European Commissioner writes.
Kadri Simson emphasizes the need to increase assistance to the Ukrainian energy system during the winter.
“We are already entering the 3rd winter since Putin started his war against Ukraine & help in energy is much needed,” the European Commissioner says.
Earlier, following the visit of European Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson to Kyiv and talks with Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko, it was announced that the EU plans to increase the possibility of importing electricity to Ukraine from the EU to cover the autumn-winter period.
