Europe must play important role in peace process on Ukraine – Chinese MFA

The war between Russia and Ukraine is taking place on European soil. Therefore, Europe must be involved in the peace process, states Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, according to the Financial Times.
According to him, China welcomes negotiations between the US and Russia on ending the war in Ukraine.
"China would love to see all its efforts to produce peace, especially if the US gets to a common understanding with Russia. This war is happening on European soil. Europe should play an important role in the process," Wang Yi emphasized.
He also dismissed the possibility that China would reduce its imports of Russian gas to pressure Moscow.
"If China does not buy gas from Russia, from which other country could it buy so much gas? We must be responsible for our people," the Chinese foreign minister stated.
Europe's participation in negotiations on Ukraine
Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy repeatedly stated that Europe must be involved in negotiations to end the war with Russia.
According to the head of state, Ukraine needs allies and fair partners when the active phase of the war comes to an end.
Meanwhile, today, February 14, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that she will "absolutely" take part in peace negotiations.
More details on why Ukraine seeks Europe's involvement in the negotiations can be found in the RBC-Ukraine report.
